The US deported one Indian every six hours in 2024, according to an annual report released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on December 19. The figures are worrying for Indians as Donald Trump takes office as US President next month. The number of Indians deported from the US in 2024 increased by 400 percent compared to 2021.
While the US deported 292 Indians in 2021, it increased to 1529 in 2024. Globally, the United States deported 59,011 people in 2021, compared to 271,484 in 2024. Indian officials said the increase in deportations was due to changes in US immigration law and bilateral agreements between India and the US.
