More information has emerged about the massive plane crash in South Korea that shocked the world. The South Korean Ministry of Transport announced that the black boxes containing flight data and cockpit voice recorders stopped recording four minutes before the disaster. Authorities have taken steps to find out what caused the black boxes to stop recording. As part of this, the black boxes have been sent to the US National Transportation Safety Board Laboratory.
The disaster at Muan International Airport on December 29 killed 179 people. Two people on the plane with 181 people on board miraculously escaped. Only the crew and the passenger in the back of the plane survived. The Jeju Airlines plane from Bangkok skidded off the runway and exploded during landing. The Jeju Airlines flight from Bangkok carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members crashed after hitting a signal system. The plane caught fire with a huge explosion, causing heavy casualties.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports emerged that the plane had been hit by a bird before landing. Jeju Airlines issued a statement apologizing after the accident. It was the worst aviation disaster in South Korea. In 1997, a Korean Airlines flight crashed in the US territory of Guam, killing 228 people on board.
