California: Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, is laying off 3,600 employees. International media outlet Bloomberg reported that Meta's explanation is that employees are being fired based on poor performance.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg officially informed employees through a memo that he was laying off 5 percent of the company's workforce. Meta's move is part of improving the performance management process. Bloomberg's report explains that Zuckerberg's explanation is that workers who perform poorly are being let go. Meta plans to cut 10,000 jobs by 2023. The layoffs are Metta's biggest since 2022 and 2023, when it laid off 21,000 employees. Zuckerberg warns Meta employees that 2025 will be a complicated year. META will inform on February 10 who are the employees who have lost their jobs. At last count, Meta had 72,000 employees.
Mark Zuckerberg is planning big changes within Meta as part of an increased collaboration with US President-elect Donald Trump. META recently announced it was ending its third-party fact-checking program in the US. A community note system similar to Elon Musk's X (old Twitter) will be replaced by Facebook.
