Sweden plans to strip citizenship of those deemed a threat to national security. Sweden's political parties have agreed to strip citizenship of dual nationals who commit crimes that threaten national security. A cross-party committee has also recommended stripping citizenship of people who use bribery or false information to obtain citizenship. They also recommend stripping citizenship of people who have committed crimes that threaten the country or fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

Sweden's constitution currently prohibits stripping citizenship. A vote on changing these laws is due to be held in parliament next year. The left-wing opposition parties are opposed to stripping the citizenship of criminal gangs. The Left and the Green Party have made it clear that they will not support the move. However, the ruling party and the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats are in favor of changing the current laws. They argue that this is necessary to address the rise in gang crime and shootings.
