Canadian citizens will now need an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to enter or transit through the UK. The new requirement, which came into effect on January 8, 2025, is part of the UK’s revised entry regulations. In addition to Canada, those from the US, Australia and other non-European countries will also need an eTA. Previously, Canadian passport holders could travel to the UK without prior approval for short-term visits of up to six months.

The new change applies to all Canadian citizens visiting the UK for tourism, visiting friends and family, studying or doing business for a period of less than six months. The current application fee is $17.50 Canadian dollars. This fee is non-refundable. Canadian passport holders traveling for less than 90 days require only a valid passport for entry.
