Online streaming service Netflix has increased its subscription prices in several markets, including Canada. The new rates will take effect on Tuesday, January 21. In Canada, the standard plan with ads has been increased from $5.99 to $7.99. The standard (no ads, HD-supported) plan has been increased from $16.49 to $18.99, and the premium plan (no ads, 4K-supported) has been increased from $20.99 to $23.99.

Netflix's fourth-quarter 2024 earnings report cited the price increase as a way to provide customers with better content and invest in TV shows, movies, and games. The price increase was made across most plans in the United States, Portugal, and Argentina.

The company last raised prices in Canada in January 2022. It was the second increase that year. At that time, the highest price for the Premium plan rose to $20.99.
