Canada is set to experience record heat this year, Environment Canada reports. The Canadian Centre for Climate Change Modelling Analysis predicts that global average temperatures will rise by 1.45 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels in 2025. The record high temperature in 2024 was 1.55 degrees Celsius. But 2023 is predicted to be warmer than any year on record before that.

The report predicts that the warming will not abate and will continue to intensify, despite the end of the El Niño phenomenon that increased heat in the tropical Pacific and increased global temperatures in 2023 and 2024. The global average temperature this year is forecast to be between 1.35 degrees Celsius and 1.55 degrees Celsius. This is the 12th consecutive year that temperatures have been at least one degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
