California: A new asteroid has added to the panic of space researchers around the world. Space scientists are closely examining whether the newly discovered '2024 YR4 asteroid' has the possibility of hitting Earth in 2032. Researchers do not completely rule out the possibility of this asteroid, which is estimated to be 40 to 100 meters in diameter, hitting Earth.
Scientists have discovered an asteroid that has a more than one percent chance of hitting Earth within eight years. The asteroid, named Asteroid 2024 YR4, is currently expected to hit Earth in December 2032. It orbits 27 million miles from Earth. However, it is currently estimated that the asteroid will come as close as 106,200 kilometers, which is dangerous for Earth. NASA is monitoring the asteroid to see if it gets any closer. NASA's Near-Earth Object Studies Center is monitoring the trajectory of Asteroid 2024 YR4.
'We are not worried about this asteroid. There is a 99 percent chance that it will pass by without hitting Earth. "However, the asteroid deserves our utmost attention," said Paul, director of the Near Earth Object Studies Center.
If it enters Earth's atmosphere, the 2024 YR4 asteroid will burn up. If it hits Earth, it will create a crater. If it misses, the asteroid is expected to come close to the moon on December 22, 2032. Asteroid 2024 YR4 was first observed by a telescope in Chile in December 2024.
