New York: The United Nations will monitor the 2024 YR4 asteroid, which could pose a threat to Earth. The news is that the UN Planetary Defense Organization has decided to monitor this space object, which has a slight chance of colliding with Earth in 2032. This asteroid is currently in the observation circle of space agencies including NASA.

Researchers currently see a 1.3 percent chance that the 2024 YR4 asteroid will collide with Earth on December 22, 2032. The European Space Agency estimates that there is a 99 percent chance that this asteroid will pass by Earth without even touching it. Dr. Robert Massey of the Royal Astronomical Society said that he was not worried or sleepless about this asteroid. Such concerns are usually eliminated when the calculations become more precise. Robert Massey added that astronomers need to be given more technology to observe such space objects. At the same time, most astronomers do not completely rule out the danger of the 2024 YR4 asteroid.

The YR4 asteroid was discovered in December 2024 by a telescope in Chile. 2024 YR4 is estimated to be between 40 and 90 meters in diameter. Asteroid YR4 has been given a rating of 3 out of 10 on the Torino Impact Hazard Scale. It is currently estimated that the asteroid will come within 106,200 kilometers of Earth on December 22, 2032. In addition to the UN, NASA's Near-Earth Object Studies Center and the European Space Agency are monitoring asteroid 2024 YR4.
