The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has assessed the damage caused by the hailstorm that hit Calgary in August 2024. The IBC estimates that the city suffered $3.25 billion in damage during the hailstorm. The heavy hailstorm that hit on August 5 is considered the second-most damaging natural disaster in Canadian history. It also resulted in more than 130,000 insurance claims, the IBC noted.

The IBC says that the majority of auto insurance claims for 2024 have been settled. More than half of these claims were related to the hailstorm. The report said that the damage to vehicles damaged by hail was estimated at about $1 billion.

About 60,000 homes in the city were affected by the hailstorm. It is expected that repairs to most of the damaged homes will be completed by the summer season. The report also said that building supplies and contractor services were delayed due to the hailstorm.
