The US has announced that a new rule requiring foreign nationals arriving in the US for visits of 30 days or more will take effect next month. The rule is part of an executive order titled "Protecting the American People from Invasion." The new change applies to anyone who is not a US citizen or permanent resident.

The executive order was signed on January 20. On Wednesday, an interim final rule was posted in the US Federal Register. According to it, foreign nationals arriving in the US for more than 30 days must register and be fingerprinted. The amendments were made by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It will take effect on April 11. This will apply if a Canadian citizen who entered the US in January remains in the US after April 11. Previously, Canadians could visit the US for up to six months without a visa. They only had to state their length of stay at the time of entry. This has now changed.
