Metro Vancouver hits another growth milestone. Metro Vancouver continues to be the most populous city in British Columbia, according to the latest population report. The Vancouver Regional District confirmed that more than three million residents live in the region.
According to the regional district’s 2024 growth forecast update, the City of Vancouver remains the province’s most populous municipality. Surrey is the second largest municipality.
The region’s population growth is driven by immigration. Earlier this year, Statistics Canada reported that Metro Vancouver’s population was over three million. The estimate was based on three growth rates: low, medium and high. The medium-term growth rate is projected to increase to 991,000 by 2050. Surrey is expected to have a population of 960,000 by 2050. Burnaby is expected to be the third most populous city in BC. The city's population is expected to reach 388,000 by 2050.
