A judge has halted a case after a plaintiff used an AI avatar to argue his own case. A New York appeals court judge halted the proceedings midway through the proceedings. The judge was angered when a 74-year-old plaintiff used an AI avatar to argue his case in front of a panel during an online court hearing.

The plaintiff, Jerome Dewald, used AI technology to present his case during a labor dispute trial. The incident occurred last month when he appeared before the First Judicial Department of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. A video of the court proceedings was released on the court's official YouTube channel.

The AI lawyer also looked similar to Jerome Dewald. The AI lawyer began his argument in court and the judge, suspicious, asked Dewald if the man was his lawyer. In response, Jerome Dewald explained that it was an AI avatar that he had created to present arguments in court. With that, the angry judge ended the court proceedings.

After the incident became controversial, Jerome told the New York Times that he was at fault and apologized to the court and the judges. Jerome added that he did not do such a thing to deceive the court, but rather created such a creation to present his arguments with accuracy and clarity.
