Indian student killed in Hamilton shooting

 

 

An Indian student was killed in a shooting in Hamilton on Thursday night, police said. The victim was 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa, a student at Mohawk College. The shooting took place in the Mohawk Road area of James Street around 7:30 p.m. Harsimrat was standing at a bus stop on her way to work when a stranger opened fire, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Harsimrat with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was rushed to the hospital, but died. Police said the shooter was a man in a Mercedes SUV. The suspect opened fire on passengers in a white sedan. Police said Harsimrat was shot during the shooting.

An investigation has been launched into the incident. Hamilton police said anyone with information is asked to contact police. Police are asking anyone with security or dashcam footage from the area between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on the night of the incident to contact investigators.
