Vatican: Pope Francis, the head of the global Catholic Church, has passed away. He passed away at 7:35 am local time at his residence in the Vatican. He was 88 years old. His father, who led the global church for 11 years, passed away. Condolences are pouring in on the Pope's passing.

Born on December 7, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His real name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He joined the Jesuits in 1958. He was ordained a priest on December 13, 1969. He became a cardinal on February 1, 2001. He became the Pope on March 13, 2013. He was the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. The Pope had expressed his desire to visit India next year. The Prime Minister had also directly invited Pope Francis to India.
