Unwilling to pay for the funeral expenses, a Japanese man hid his father's body in a wardrobe at home for two years. According to a report by the South China Morning Post, he did this because he thought he would have to spend a lot of money on the funeral.

Nobuhiko Suzuki, 56, hid his father's death for two years. The restaurant owner, a Chinese restaurant in Tokyo, did not open for a few days in a row, and worried locals informed the police. The police then went to his house and searched and found his father's skeleton in a wardrobe in a room.

Suzuki then confessed to the crime during interrogation by the police. According to him, his father died in January 2023 at the age of 86. Suzuki says that he does not know how his father died and that he found him dead when he came home from work.
He said he hid his father's death and was unwilling to bury him because the funeral was too expensive. The police arrested him after investigations revealed that Suzuki had continued to receive his father's pension even after his death.

Further investigation into the incident is currently underway. According to reports, the average funeral cost in Japan is 1.3 million yen (US$8,900). This is around 7 lakh rupees in Indian rupees.
