New York: A teacher who sent nude photos to a student has been banned for life. The New York Department of Education has issued an order banning drama teacher Megan Lanning from teaching for life. Lanning, 36, was a music and performing arts teacher at Ripplevale School in Rochester, Kent. The action came after she sent two obscene photos to a student on her mobile phone.

Lanning sent the student a semi-nude photo and a sexually suggestive photo. The incident came to light in February last year. International media reports that Lanning herself disclosed this to the authorities. The teacher admitted to the authorities that she had an inappropriate crush on a boy in her class and sent the boy two nude photos.

They chatted for hours on Instagram and by phone. During this time, he developed an inappropriate liking for the student and sent her pictures. He felt guilty for what he had done. Lanning told the panel during the trial that he was afraid it would be in the media and that he would never do something like this again.

Alan Wells, the chairman of the panel that investigated the incident, said Lanning's behavior was serious and had degraded the quality of the profession. The teacher was subsequently banned for life. Lanning will not be eligible to be reinstated as a teacher in the future, civil servant Mark Cave said on behalf of Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson.
