Statistics Canada reports another spike in unemployment in Canada. The Canadian labour market remained largely stagnant in April, with just 7,400 new jobs created, Statistics Canada said. The unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 6.9 per cent, up from 6.7 per cent in March.

The latest figures from Statistics Canada show that unemployment rates are rising in B.C. and nationally, with the unemployment rate hitting 6.9 per cent for the first time since November. Job losses in the manufacturing and hospitality sectors have also increased as the effects of Donald Trump's trade war begin to be felt.
