Mumbai: The IPL, which was suspended due to the India-Pakistan conflict, is reported to resume next week. This is after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire with each other. US President Donald Trump had stated that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. Both agreed to the ceasefire after long discussions. Therefore, the BCCI may decide to continue the IPL. The decision of the central government will also be crucial in this regard.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that the BCCI is considering holding the remaining IPL matches in venues like Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata, which are less prone to conflict. The BCCI was planning to go ahead with the tournament as scheduled if the tension eased, otherwise it would be limited to these four cities and complete the tournament.
The BCCI believes that it would not be appropriate to postpone the tournament to August-September. If the remaining matches of the tournament are postponed to August-September, there is no guarantee that international players will be able to play. It is reported that the team owners have informed the BCCI that this will drain the strength of the teams and destroy the good performances they have done so far. If the IPL is postponed to September, the participation of foreign players may be a problem for the teams. England and South Africa are playing a T20 series from September 2 to 14.
