A Toronto man who raised money for Islamic State has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. He will serve an additional nine years in prison, including time spent in custody awaiting trial.
Yousef, a Toronto man who raised money for Islamic State, admitted in court that he used online fundraising platforms to raise money for the terrorist group.

The Ontario Superior Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison for raising money for the terrorist group. Yousef said he was raising money for Palestinians in Gaza and for Muslim religious events, and he solicited donations through crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe. The money was then sent to ISIS supporters. They provided photos of weapons, ammunition, and the ISIS flag, and showed them how to use them. In addition to ISIS propaganda, Yusuf admitted in court that they also prepared manuals explaining how to join the terrorist organization and carry out attacks.
