Statistics Canada reported that travel from Canada to the United States fell for the fourth consecutive month. According to the April figures, there was also a significant drop in the number of people returning to Canada from the United States. The number of Canadian citizens returning to Canada from the United States by car in April was 1.2 million, a decrease of 35.2 per cent. The number of people returning by air also fell. Only 5,82,700 Canadian citizens returned from the United States by air in April, a decrease of 19.9 per cent compared to the previous year.
The number of American citizens traveling to Canada also fell sharply. The number of Americans traveling to Canada by air fell by 5.5 per cent. Canada saw a drop in arrivals of 289,300.
US President Donald Trump's tariff policies, controversial statements against Canada, and border restrictions are believed to be the reasons for the decline in Canadian travelers.
