Alberta Premier Daniel Smith announced that the industrial carbon price hike has been frozen indefinitely. The industrial carbon price is set at $95 per tonne. The province had planned to increase the industrial carbon price to $110 per tonne by 2026 and $170 per tonne by 2030. However, Smith stated that the industrial carbon price will remain at $95 per tonne indefinitely.
Alberta is the province that has implemented an industrial carbon tax plan since 2007. It collects funds from industrial companies and returns them in the form of grants for emission reduction technology or industry innovation projects.
