Walmart says prices of some items in Loblaw stores are likely to increase due to the Canada-US reciprocal tariffs. There are reports that prices will increase as products brought into Canada before the trade war began run out. Loblaw Chief Executive Per Bank has also stated that the prices of products subject to tariffs will increase.
Higher costs following the tariffs have also led to price increases in the US. Walmart has stated that the prices of many products will have to be increased in US stores. Loblaw has listed more than a thousand items that will be affected by the tariffs. The report says that this will increase to more than 3,000 in the next one or two weeks and more than 6,000 in the next two months. There has been a slight easing in the tariff war between the US and many other countries. But that is not the case in Canada yet. Therefore, it is reported that there is a possibility of a large tariff-related price increase in the coming weeks. Loblaw Chief Executive Per Bank said he was hopeful that leaders including Prime Minister Mark Carney had held talks with the United States. The bank said it was pleased that the federal government had changed its counter-tariff policies to limit tariffs to finished food products coming from the United States.
