More countries are now offering digital nomad visa programs. To get a digital nomad visa, you need to meet salary and savings criteria. Each country's salary requirements must be met. Or you may need to submit proof of the amount of assets that the visitor has. This can often be much higher than the average local income. In addition to income, the person's background check includes proof of accommodation, health insurance coverage, and savings. Canadians are required to submit documents proving income or assets in five countries.
Thailand
To obtain a Digital Nomad Visa in Thailand, you must submit proof of financial and asset assets of at least 500,000 Thai baht (20,943.20 Canadian dollars). Last year, the Thai government announced the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). It is informally known as the Digital Nomad Visa.
Italy
A Canadian citizen must have a salary requirement of €24,789 (38,672 Canadian dollars) per year to live and work in Italy. According to the Consolato Generale d'Italia in New York, as of 2024, you must earn €24,789 or $38,672 per year to qualify for a digital nomad/remote worker visa.
UAE
A monthly salary of $4,891 (C$3,500) is required. If you are a remote worker, you can apply for a virtual work visa. This visa allows you to sponsor your family and stay in the country for 60 days.
Japan
A digital nomad visa in Japan requires a salary of 10 million Japanese yen (95,851 Canadian dollars) per year. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the applicant will be granted a six-month digital nomad visa.
Iceland
A digital nomad visa in Iceland requires a monthly salary of 1,000,000 Icelandic króna, or 1,300,000 Icelandic króna (13,891 Canadian dollars) per month.
