Alberta is preparing to host the G7 summit. The summit will be held in Kananaskis from June 15 to 17. Leaders from Canada, the U.S., France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K. will attend the summit.

The leaders met in Ottawa earlier in the day. Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne and Bank of Canada Governor Tiff McClem will meet with G7 representatives in Banff next week to prepare for the summit. The Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG) is responsible for security at the summit, as key leaders will be arriving. The RCMP is leading the effort. The Calgary Police Service, Alberta Sheriff's Branch, Alberta Forestry and Parks, and the Canadian Armed Forces are also playing a key role in security. A large area around Kananaskis will be closed to the public from June 10 to 18 in conjunction with the summit. The summit is expected to be attended by leaders including US President Donald Trump, along with 70 distinguished guests and about 2,000 delegates. Kananaskis also hosted the G7 summit in 2002.
