The premiers of Canada's various provinces have agreed to develop new economic corridors. They have requested support from the federal government for this. The premiers in the western part of the country have agreed to plan and develop new economic corridors to connect provincial resources to international markets.

Amid the trade war with the United States and China, this will help Canada's market access to Asia and Europe, according to a joint statement issued by the premiers. Western Canada's infrastructure, such as highways, railways, ports, airports and pipelines, is critical to Canada's productivity, energy security and economic competitiveness, the leaders said in a statement. The premiers reached the decision to develop new economic corridors during a two-day meeting in Yellowknife. The premiers said it is time for Western Canada to become the country's economic engine and that the only obstacle to that is the lack of infrastructure to transport resources to new markets. Prime Minister Mark Carney's support is essential to resolving this, including connecting West Coast ports to the Hudson Bay Coast, the premiers said.
