The Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit has announced that human remains have been found in a landfill during the search for Shalini Singh, a 40-year-old Indian-origin woman who has been missing since December. Homicide detectives have been conducting an extensive search for Shalini Singh at the Glanbrook Landfill on Haldibrook Road since February 24. The search was originally scheduled to end on April 18, but has been extended for another two weeks.
Police said in a press conference that partial human remains were found in a landfill during a search conducted on May 21. The remains have been sent for DNA testing to confirm that they are Shalini Singh. Police said they are awaiting the results, which could take weeks. The debris was found in a 5,000-cubic-meter target area that police were searching.
Police were notified of Singh's disappearance on December 10, 2024. Shalini Singh, a healthcare worker, last spoke to her family on December 4, 2024. The woman was last seen entering the apartment on December 2. Shalini Singh also lived with her boyfriend. He was taken into custody and questioned as part of the investigation, but investigators said he was not cooperating with the investigation. Authorities also say he has not yet provided any information that could help locate Shalini Singh.
