Amazon has opened its largest warehouse facility in British Columbia to date. The new facility aims to increase its capacity to deliver packages faster to customers across the province and create more jobs. The new warehouse is located on 48 acres of land at 19300 Airport Way in Pitt Meadows, adjacent to the Fraser River.
The 825,000-square-foot warehouse is called YXX1. It is named after Amazon's facility code system. The facility is also named after the airport code because of its proximity to Abbotsford International Airport. YXX1 is 40 per cent larger than the YVR3 warehouse facility in Metro Vancouver.
YXX1 is Amazon’s first warehousing and distribution facility in BC. The warehouse’s operations include storing, handling and distributing inventory to customer fulfillment centres such as YVR3. The new facility currently employs more than 100 people, bringing the total number of Amazon warehouse, tech hub/corporate office employees in the province to more than 10,000.
Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole McDonald welcomed Amazon’s new facility. Amazon’s investment in our region has created valuable jobs and economic opportunities for the region and the local community. McDonald's said Amazon also supports Canadian businesses through its commitment to customer service.
