Air India crash: Canadian says dentist wife among dead

Canadian has revealed that a dentist and his Indian-origin wife were among the dead in the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The only Canadian on board has been identified as Dr. Nirali Patel, the media reported. Patel told Canadian media that he was planning to fly to India with his one-year-old child after learning of his wife's death.

Patel, who lived in Etobicoke, worked at Heritage Dental Care Clinic in Mississauga. Nirali Patel, who graduated in dentistry from India in 2016, obtained her license in Canada in 2019. She was returning home from a five-day visit to India when she died.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney paid tribute to the victims of the Air India crash and expressed his condolences.

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was en route from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport to London, crashed during takeoff. There were 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Of these, 241 died. One miraculously survived. Since the plane crashed in a residential area, all those on board also lost their lives in the accident. A total of 294 people are reported to have died.
