Two plane crashes. The two people who miraculously survived both the accidents were sitting in seat number 11A. Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British national who survived the plane crash in Ahmedabad, was a passenger in seat 11A. Vishwas Kumar was the only person who survived when the plane crashed with 242 people including the crew members. Faith's incredible escape takes Thai actor and singer Ruangsak Loichusak back 27 years.
Ruangsak was a survivor of the Thai Airways Flight TG261 crash on December 11, 1998. He was shocked when he heard the story of Vishwas. Ruangsak said that the seat he was occupying was also 11 A when the accident occurred. He was 20 years old then. Ruangsak said in a Facebook post that he was surprised to see the similarity in his and Vishwas Kumar's seat numbers. Ruangsak noted that when he escaped the accident, Vishwas Kumar, who was in the same seat number, also escaped. His post went viral. Many commented. There were comments that there was something special about seat 11A. A very safe seat campaign was also started.
But experts opine that this seat is not so important and just like other seats. Every accident is different. Mitchell Fox, director of the US-based Flight Safety Foundation, said it was impossible to predict survival based on seat position. It is also worth noting that seat 11A is located in different locations on different aircraft depending on the configuration of the aircraft.
In Vishwas Kumar's case, seat 11A on the 787-8 Dreamliner was the first row in economy class. It was just behind the emergency exit. But on an Airbus A310 flight, according to photos on the SeatGuru website and a seating chart graphic shared by Loychusak on Facebook, 11A is a few rows ahead of the emergency exit.
