A historic journey that started yesterday
Four people including Shubhamshu Shukla left for the International Space Station yesterday on the Axiom 4 mission. Their journey was on SpaceX's 'Grace' Crew Dragon spacecraft. The other members of the Axiom 4 mission team are veteran American astronaut Peggy Whitson, Polish native Sławos Usnanski, and Hungarian Tibor Kapu. Peggy was the mission commander. The mission pilot leading the mission was Shubhamshu Shukla
Shubhamshu Shukla makes history
By becoming part of the Axiom 4 mission, Shubhamshu Shukla became the second Indian to go into space after Rakesh Sharma. Shubhamshu Shukla's journey comes 41 years after Rakesh Sharma's historic spacewalk in 1984 aboard Russia's Soyuz spacecraft. But Rakesh Sharma's journey was not to the International Space Station. Therefore, after the Dragon spacecraft docked, Shubhamshu Shukla became the first Indian to reach the ISS. The 'Grace' spacecraft reached the International Space Station after completing a 28-hour journey after launching from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
