Auckland: An Indian-origin doctor pierced a woman's cheek with an Airflow polisher while removing plaque from her teeth. Indian-origin dentist Bharat Raja Subramani alias Barry is facing several serious charges, including treating a patient without obtaining the necessary consent from the patient before treatment. The Indian-origin doctor has been charged with 39 charges in New Zealand in connection with the treatment of 11 patients between October 2017 and October 2018.
The Health and Disability Commissioner said yesterday that the charges against the doctor were proven with evidence. In 2023, the tribunal had fined Bharat Raja Subramani Rs 12,839,305 and cancelled his registration for three years. Bharat Raja Subramani is currently facing charges including overcharging and providing unnecessary treatment. Bharat Raja Subramani pierced the cheek of a woman who had come to get her teeth cleaned with an Airflow polisher, Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Vanes Caldwell said in a statement released on Monday.
The Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner has found that Subramani Health and Disability Services breached the Consumer Code in relation to dental services provided to three more patients. The Health and Disability Commissioner has also ordered Bharat Raja Subramani to issue a formal apology to all three patients.
