Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished the Dalai Lama a happy birthday. The Prime Minister said that he, along with 140 crore Indians, wishes His Holiness the Dalai Lama a happy birthday on his 90th birthday. The Prime Minister also said in his greetings that the Dalai Lama is an eternal symbol of love, compassion, forgiveness and moral discipline. The Lama's message inspired respect and admiration from all religious communities. We pray for his continued good health and long life, the Prime Minister said.
In a message to the faithful yesterday, the Dalai Lama said that he wants to live until the age of 130. The Dalai Lama also stated that he will announce his successor only after his death. This makes it clear that the Dalai Lama will not announce his successor soon. However, his announcement that he will definitely have a successor after his death also put an end to rumors that the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism will not continue.
