Malaysian police have launched an investigation against a Hindu priest based on a complaint by 2021 Miss Grand Malaysia winner Lishalini Kanaran. Lishalini Kanaran had filed a complaint on June 21, alleging that a Hindu priest who approached her on the pretext of blessing her while she was performing puja at a Hindu temple. Lishalini alleged that the priest, who approached her on the pretext of sprinkling holy water, tried to sexually assault her.

The outside world came to know about the humiliating incident she faced during her temple visit when Lishalini wrote on her Facebook page. The Malay Mail reported that Sepang district police chief ACP Norhisam Bahaman said that the accused was an Indian national and had come temporarily because the temple priest was on leave.

On June 21, he had come alone to visit the temple because his mother was in India. He had come to visit the temple at the Mariamman Temple in Sepang, located a short distance from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Since it was his first time visiting a temple, a priest would come to help him with the prayers and rituals. He said that he had kept some holy water and a poojai for me on the day of the incident. He had told him to come to the office. He arrived at the office about an hour and a half after blessing other devotees. Lishalini writes that he sprinkled rose-scented water on me, saying that it was not given to ordinary devotees.

While sprinkling holy water, he asked her to lift her Punjabi suit. When she said that she could not lift her blouse and that it was tight, he scolded her for wearing tight clothes. The woman wrote that he came from behind and put his hand on her bosom, but even though she knew it was wrong, she could not even move, she felt as if she was frozen.

She had to go through a severe mental state for several days. Finally, after her mother returned from India, she told her mother about the priest's actions. Her mother told the rest of the family and filed a complaint with the police that same day. But by then, the priest had left the temple. The woman also filed a complaint against the temple management. The woman alleged that the temple management was helping the priest instead of helping her. Complaints had been filed against him before. Malaysian police said that the complaint is being investigated and that the suspect has currently left the country.
