Couple caught smoking on plane; Flight from Mexico to London diverted, passengers stranded for 17 hours

 

 

A flight from Cancun, Mexico to Gatwick, London was diverted after a couple smoked in the plane's washroom. Passengers on the flight were stranded for 17 hours after landing at a Maine airport. The incident happened on a TUI flight on July 8. The captain said passengers would be inconvenienced after a couple were found smoking in the washroom and that the plane would land at Bangor International Airport in Maine for safety reasons. The plane landed at the airport at 9:30 p.m. local time. Action was taken against the two smokers and they were removed from the plane.

A passenger on the plane said the couple had been drinking heavily. The passengers, who had been stuck at the airport for about 17 hours, were scheduled to depart Maine on July 9 at 3 p.m. local time.
