The Canadian passport has overtaken the US passport to move into top 10 of the world's most powerful passports. The Canadian passport is one of the 10 most powerful passports, according to this year's Henley Passport Index, which is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The passport ranking is determined based on how many countries a passport holder can travel to without a visa. This includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
The Canadian passport, which was in seventh place last year but has slipped to eighth place this year, has overtaken the American passport. It currently offers visa-free access to 184 countries for its holders. The Canadian passport shares eighth place with the passports of Estonia and the UAE.
The US passport, which offers visa-free travel to 182 countries, is in tenth place. The American passport has dropped two places compared to last year. Singapore remains the most powerful passport in the world. The Singapore passport will grant visa-free access to 195 countries in 2024. Singapore retained its top spot this year, allowing visa-free travel to 193 countries.
Japan and South Korea are in second place, while Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain are in third place.
