Washington: US President Donald Trump has tightened his stance against India over its purchase of crude oil from Russia. Trump has warned India that additional tariffs will be imposed in the next 24 hours. The US President has openly said that India is not a good trading partner. They do a lot of trade with us. But we are not with them, Trump said in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday.
"So we have limited it to 25 percent, but because they are buying Russian oil, I want to raise it significantly in the next 24 hours. They are fueling the war," Trump added. Trump's new threat comes after last week's imposition of 25 percent tariffs. Trump, who had said that India and Russia are weakened economic powers, had again come out against India this week, which is buying Russian oil in large quantities.
On Monday, Trump wrote on the Truth social platform: "India not only buys Russian oil, but sells most of it on the market for a huge profit. They have no idea how many people are being killed in Ukraine because of the Russian war. Therefore, I will significantly increase the tariffs that India pays to the US."
