Chicago: Police are warning of an increase in ATM robberies in eight different areas of Chicago. The robberies took place in Ogden, Harrison, Near West, Shakespeare, Austin, Jefferson Park, Near North and Grand Central.
Police said that a group of two to five black men were behind the robberies. They use stolen or rented SUVs to carry out the robbery. Their method is to break down the doors of establishments, enter them, take ATM machines and load them into the vehicle and escape. They arrive wearing black masks, black clothing and gloves.
The robberies mostly occurred between June and August. The thefts occurred in several locations, including the 3900 block of W. Ogden St., 5600 block of W. Roosevelt St., 5100 block of W. Grand St., 1600 block of W. North Ave., and 800 block of N. Orleans St.
