Peel Public Health has confirmed that a bat in Mississauga has been found to be infected with rabies. The bat was found on a road in the McLaughlin area of Derry. The agency has not provided any indication as to whether the bat had any human contact.
The agency advised anyone who has been bitten or scratched by an animal to seek immediate medical attention. The public is also being warned to be vigilant.
Rabies can be prevented with medical treatment. However, the agency warned that symptomatic rabies infections in humans are more likely to be severe.
