Father donates liver to daughter, no money, takes care of himself at home instead of staying in hospital

 

 

A heartbreaking life story of a young man is currently going viral on social media in China. A video of a father who donated a portion of his liver to his daughter and taking care of himself at home instead of staying in the hospital to save money for treatment has gained attention.

The father, Shen, donated a portion of his liver for his daughter. According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the video of the young man changing his own bandages in a rented flat has gone viral.

Shen and his wife are in their early 20s. They got married in 2024. Although they were very happy when they had a baby, their daughter, Yiyi, developed jaundice within weeks of her birth. This later became serious.

The couple went to various hospitals with their daughter. She was eventually diagnosed with liver disease and cirrhosis. Treatment began. Although there was initial improvement in the treatment, Yiyi's condition deteriorated later. Doctors also informed her that there was no other option but to transplant her liver.

On August 13, Shen underwent surgery to donate a part of his liver to his daughter. The transplant was successful.

By then, in addition to the mental pain and stress, Shen and his wife were also facing severe financial difficulties. The medical expenses had already exceeded 100,000 yuan (Rs. 12,31,905). Shen initially went to work while his wife took care of Tao Yiyi. However, he had to quit his job as his condition worsened. Shen later worked some odd jobs to support his family. In order to avoid further expenses, Shen was discharged from the hospital early and returned home.
