Dubai-based airline Emirates is changing its rules on air travel from next month. The airline has announced that it will completely ban the use of power banks on board its aircraft from October 1. It will not be allowed to charge mobile phones or other devices using power banks or to charge power banks using on-board power sources. Passengers are allowed to carry power banks with them, subject to certain conditions. However, they cannot be used while in the cabin.

Emirates passengers can carry a power bank with a capacity of less than 100Wh, power banks cannot be used to charge personal devices on board,
Charging power banks using on-board power sources is not permitted, all power banks carried on board must have information indicating their capacity, power banks cannot be placed in the overhead stowage bin on board, but instead, must be placed in a seat pocket or a bag under the seat in front of them, and power banks are not allowed in check-in luggage (current rule) are among the new rules.

There has been a significant increase in the number of passengers using power banks in recent times. This has also led to an increase in the number of lithium battery-related accidents on board aircraft across the aviation sector. The airline’s decision comes after a comprehensive safety review to mitigate these risks.
