Tragedy at Vijay's Karur rally that shook the country; 39 people including nine children died, 111 injured in hospital

Chennai: The death toll in the tragedy at TVK president Vijay's Karur rally that shook the country has reached 39. Nine children, 17 women and 13 men died in the stampede. 111 people are being treated in hospitals after being injured. Of these, 10 are in critical condition. There are also reports that several children are missing. The Tamil Nadu government has announced a judicial inquiry into the incident. A judicial commission has been appointed to investigate. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reached Karur this morning. A review meeting was held at the hospital. After the procedures, the bodies kept in the hospital morgue began to be handed over to the relatives in the morning. The Tamil Nadu government announced an emergency assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reached Karur at around 3.25 am and paid his last respects to the deceased at the hospital.

Chief Minister MK Stalin met the media after a review meeting held at the hospital. MK Stalin said that it was an unprecedented incident and an indescribable tragedy at a meeting of political parties. When asked whether Vijay would be arrested, he replied that he could not say now who would be arrested and who would not be arrested. MK Stalin, who said that appropriate action would be taken after the investigation, did not respond to a question about the police lapse.
