The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics has been announced. Three people have been awarded the prize. John Clarke, Michael H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis are the winners. The prize is for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunneling and energy quantization in electric circuits.

The trio was awarded the prize for their research while they were part of the University of California. The award was announced by representatives of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded 118 times so far. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics went to two giants in the field of machine learning, John J. Hepfield and Jeffrey E. Hinton.
