A small plane that can be folded and carried in a car. That is China's Janus 1. The 'Janus-1' ultralight VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) helicopter developed by Chinese company X-Control Systems has the potential to revolutionize personal air travel.

This small helicopter, nicknamed the Flying Suitcase, can be easily folded and stored. It is only large enough to be carried in the trunk of a regular car. It is powered by a turboshaft engine that runs on diesel, kerosene, and Jet A fuels. The manufacturers claim that the Janus-1 is ahead in portability and convenience compared to existing eVTOL (electric VTOL) models. This helicopter can be operated with or without a pilot.

The core module, which weighs just 70 kilograms, can carry a maximum payload of 200 kilograms. Janus-1 has the capacity to fly for 30 to 40 minutes at a cruising speed of 100 kilometers per hour. Due to its simple control system, it is said that no special license or official certification is required to fly it. In addition to personal travel, this new helicopter can also be used for cargo, emergency medical assistance, aerial surveys, and rescue operations.
