Amazon has launched its first electric delivery vans in Canada. This is part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions globally. A fleet of Rivian vehicles has started service to deliver parcels in the Greater Vancouver area. This is a significant step in Amazon’s goal of ‘The Climate Pledge’ to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Currently, 50 Rivian electric vans operate from Amazon’s delivery station in Delta, B.C. This is a major initiative aimed at decarbonizing its local delivery fleet, said Eva Lawrence, vice president of Amazon Canada.
Rivian has designed these vehicles with the safety and comfort of drivers in mind. The vans feature advanced safety features such as 360-degree visibility, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

They also include technology that connects to Amazon’s workflow to make delivery tasks easier. Amazon aims to have 100,000 Rivian electric delivery vehicles on the road globally by 2030. Amazon currently uses more than 35,000 electric delivery vehicles to deliver parcels around the world.
