Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing science agencies to use artificial intelligence (AI) to boost the country's scientific research capabilities. The new project, dubbed 'Genesis Mission', began on Monday.
The order instructs science agencies, including the Department of Energy (DOE), to use the technology extensively. This will speed up discoveries in areas such as medicine, energy production, and engineering.
Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, called it "the largest move to mobilize federal science resources since the Apollo program."
DOE’s Role: Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Aka will analyze large datasets from DOE’s 17 national laboratories. This will significantly accelerate scientific discovery and innovation.
The government’s scientific datasets and computing resources will be made available to university researchers, private companies, and national security experts in a form that can be easily read by AI tools. This will be made available to university researchers, private companies, and national security experts.
Aka will be able to speed up advanced simulations by 10,000 to 100,000 times, officials said.
