Six members of a family in critical condition in West Bengal after a housewife poured acid into curry, mistaking it for water, while cooking food. The family of a silver jeweller from Ghatal in West Midnapore district, Santu, ate the food laced with acid. They were being treated at a hospital in Ghatal and have been shifted to a hospital in Kolkata as their condition is critical.

Since it is a silver jeweller, acid is usually kept at home. The housewife accidentally poured acid into the curry she made for Sunday lunch. It is said that the mistake happened because the jars used to store the acid and water were the same. All six members of the family fell ill soon after eating lunch. Following the incident, the authorities have advised the villagers to be careful while handling dangerous substances like acid.
