The Israeli government has approved a plan to take 5800 Jews from Northeast India to Israel. The goal is to take all of them to Israel and settle them by 2030. 1200 people will be taken next year.
The Jewish Agency for Israel is leading the immigration of this Jewish community, known as 'Bene Manasseh', to Israel. A special plan of 90 million shekels has been devised for them to pay for airfare from India, conversion classes, accommodation, Hebrew language studies and special benefits. Immigration and Integration Minister Ofir Sofar presented the issue at a cabinet meeting held on Sunday.
