Sheikh Hasina sentenced to 21 years in prison in three corruption cases

After being sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced in three separate corruption cases. The cases relate to irregularities in the allocation of plots under the Rajuk New Town project in Purbachal. Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to a total of 21 years in prison in these cases.

The court sentenced Hasina's son Sajeeb Wasid Joy to five years in prison and a fine of 1,00,000 taka. Her daughter Saima Wasid Putul has also been sentenced to five years in prison. The Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission had filed six cases against Hasina and her family members.
