Europe is entering a period of sustained population decline, a shift that has governments worried about the future of their workforces and economic stability, according to a report published by the Washington Post.

The birth rate across the European Union has hit a record low of 1.38 births per woman. That's far below the level needed to maintain a healthy population. Many Europeans are delaying parenthood, often until their late 20s or early 30s.
